Can I start using full synthetic oil after 103,000 miles in a 00 v6 accord or is a synthetic blend better?

I have a 2000 v6 honda accord and it needs an oil change. I want to switch to synthetic but I dont know if it will be better to switch to full synthetic, synthetic blend or just stick with conventional. But id rather switch to synthetic. It has 103,000 miles. Can I start using full synthetic oil after 103,000 miles in a 00 v6 accord or is a synthetic blend better?
This is a good question! A Honda V6 with 103k miles usually will handle a full synthetic oil with no problem, as long as the engines oil was changed routinely and there are no other mechanical problems you have not mentioned(ie slight blue smoke when engine first started, oil leaks, oil usage between changes). If you are nervous about the change-over, try using a para-synthetic to start, then on the next oil change go to a full synthetic, as long as there is no increased oil usage and oil leak. You should have no problem with this change. Good luck and thanks for a good worthwhile question. Can I start using full synthetic oil after 103,000 miles in a 00 v6 accord or is a synthetic blend better?
should be fine, i have changed over at 120000 miles. but check the oil alot right after you do change it. i added 2 or 2 1/2 quarts until i changed at three thousand miles. then it stopped using any oil, and it had alwys used oil before. so dont be suprised if you have to add a little aterwards for a time.
Should be fine. Its interesting what Campma said in his answer-- that his oil consumption increased for a short time after the switch, then returned to normal. As an Amsoil dealer I have heard this is due to the synthetic oil cleaning your engine; since dirty oil tends to get by your piston rings easier the oil consumption increases during this cleaning process. Once this process is over and you have clean synthetic in the engine, you can normally expect lower oil consumption than before the switch due to the lower volatility(how easy the oil vaporizes) of synthetic oil.

There are a couple ways to solve this--

1. after the switch to synthetic change the oil filter more frequently and top off with more synthetic oil until oil consumption stabilizes.

2. Use a product such as Amsoil Engine Flush http://www.amsoil.com/lit/g172.pdf

This is the method I use and recommend when I convert a customer's car to Amsoil:

a. Change the oil filter (use a cheap brand for this). Add the engine flush and idle the engine 15-20 minutes. The new oil filter captures the contaminants freed by the engine flush.

b. Turn off engine and immediately drain the old oil and flush.

c. Install a new Amsoil EaO synthetic nanofiber oil filter.

d. Finally, install the Amsoil synthetic motor oil.
