What type of non synthetic oil should I put in my 2001 XLE V6 Toyota Camry?

It has 100,026 miles... I can't remember if it is 10-05 or 10-30... Thanks for your advice... JamesWhat type of non synthetic oil should I put in my 2001 XLE V6 Toyota Camry?
Make sure you don't need 5w 20w, look in the manual or call a dealer.

Sometimes the oil fill cap has it stamped on it.What type of non synthetic oil should I put in my 2001 XLE V6 Toyota Camry?
There is no reason NOT to use a fine synthetic oil in your Camry. Your engine is just breaking in. For best results, use a sludge remover, like butyl cellosolve BEFORE changing the oil. Use Mobil One, ELF, or Amzoil. Oil change intervals can then be extended safely to 2 years. Be sure to use a genuine Toyota oil filter or a Mobil One oil filter. Regular oil ALWAYS leaves sludge and varnish and dirt build-up inside the engine components like valve lifters. Use the synthetic to protect best, clean the most, and last the longest!!! Your engine should last for more than 300,000 miles with little or no discernible engine wear if you follow my advise. Also, power wash your engine and keep it showroom clean ALWAYS. Good Luck!!
10W-30.

Castrol, Chevron, Penzoil, they're all good.
not 10 w 30

5 w 30 go with

and go with penzoil

Is synthetic oil so superior as to justify the much higher price?

For years we have used non-synthetic oil without destroying our engines. Now the general buzz is that synthetic oil is many times superior. Does it really reduce friction to the point where gas mileage is increased? I am not putting it into a racing car but merely a Toyota Corolla. Does the supposed difference only apply to high-performance engines? Does it protect the average engine from wear any better? Is synthetic oil so superior as to justify the much higher price?
Here's my opinion..go to this site as I consider it the #1 site on the net when it comes to any questions regarding engine oils, additives etc. There's a message board as well.

Here's a quote from the site.

';Bob Is The Oil Guy (BITOG) began in May 2002 with a handful of participants and now our oil forums have over 16,000 registered members. And we have well-respected tribologists, chemists, and oil analysis professionals who regularly participate and contribute their knowledge and expertise.

Unlike most private motor oil web sites, Bob Is The Oil Guy is not about selling you something. It's about educating you so you can make informed decisions about the life blood of your engine: motor oil.';Is synthetic oil so superior as to justify the much higher price?
The major advantage of synthetic oils is that they are not petroleum based, or not ';entirely'; petroleum based, in some cases. The theory tends to be that it does not ';break down'; over time, runs cleaner longer, and does not leave a lacquer residue on parts. As for being better at lubricating, increasing horsepower, or giving better mileage, I don't really believe it. I still use regular motor oil, usually the cheapest five quart bottles, and change it and the filter every couple months...that philosophy has never let me down yet.
Yes, synthetic oil is finally coming into its own. Newer cars are being sold with synthetic oil.

Here is the catch though. Before you use it do at least two back to back fillups to get an accurate MPG reading. Then if you use a quick oil change shop make sure you stand there and watch them. I personally do not trust them anymore. Anyway, after about 1000 miles driving do a MPG check and see how you are doing. It takes about that long for the oil to seep into the metal properly and for you to notice the difference. Now if you get the difference and then multiply the miles saved you should see the dollars saved on the gas. It is really noticeable of the mileage saved when you do long distance driving. I had a 33% increase on my 82 Toyota Celica and it was a 4 cylinder engine and this was in 84 when I started it. I think I was saving about $10 a month. I know the saving would be more now with these high gas prices.

Synthetic has some lubricants in it that are small enough to seep into the metal. Regular oil just coats a metal piston, not seep into it. Also, you do the recommended synthetic oil change every 6 months, not 3 months. So a regular oil change is about $9 and then $9 again in the next 3 months. Now at Walmart you can get the 5 qt can for the price of 4 quarts so you save money there. But if you do use 5 quarts then it is about $28 vs $18 in a 6 month period.

Now what I did on my celica was change the oil filter every 3 months or sooner and did the synthetic oil change every year. Regular oil has a breakdown of 12,000 miles and synthetic has a breakdown at 60,000 miles. So how they came up with 6 months oil change I do not know. But my car had 210.000 miles before it was stolen. They found it and I did not know that I could have bought it back cheaper than the money they paid me for it. But it was running smooth. The reason I was a stickler on oil filter changes, cuz in the Army maintenance I learned that microscopic metal particles in the oil is what puts wear and tear on an engine. So I figured to changed oil filters often, but the synthetic oil once a year. Worked for me. I have a 92 Ford Eddie Bauer which I bought from my brother. I had turned him into a synthetic user. Anyway, the original engine has over 231,000 as of last week. I had to get another free tire from Discount Tire, otherwise I never really look at the odometer. The only thing done to the engine was change the oil pump and valve cover gaskets.

But do the fillup test first before your syn oil change. Then when you see the difference in money, like me you will never go back to the dark side. Money rules!!!!
Synthetic oil is made from standard oil but it has been chemically altered for superior sheer resistance. Thinner oil will now have the same protection as thicker oil with less resistance. It will not reverse engine damage but will hold it off for longer.
All that synthetic oil does is increase your Hp by to 2 or 3 because it is not so thick as regular oil.
i don't think there are any HARD stats on that. i haven't seen a lot of manufacturers advocating synthetic.
One of the key reasons to switch to synthetic oil is you will achieve better gas mileage.
I posed the same question to myself three yrs. ago to myself when I purchased a new 4 cyl. Camry. At that time Toyota had an oil sludge problem looming around their heads. I figured that by using an oil (Mobil 1 synthetic) I could duck the causes of the claim. Sure enough, inside the valve cover looks like a hospital operating room. I wanted optimum protection inside the little hot running motor. It's payed off with 35 - 36- mpg. highway and 26 - 27 around town. True @ $22.50 per gallon at every 5000 mile oil change may sound excessive. It's the first car I've ever used 100% synthetic oil. The motor has been perfect and when my free dealer oil changes are up at 36,000 miles I plan on continuing this program. I've been changing my own oil in all my other cars since the early 60's. To preserve every bit of leverage of the 60,000 drive train guarantee I'll continue to stick to the 5,000 mile Mobil 1 changes.
synthetic extends oil change time. Many car and oil co. say 12 to 15 thou.. yes it does improve millage though only slightly...in the government cafe world 1/3 mpg times 3 million cars helps....Your car may not blow up with regular old oil but say it lasted 300,000 miles instead of 150,000.. The money part.. is it worth it? I still use regular oil and change it at 5,000 miles..My S10 has 125,000 miles and uses 1/2 qt between changes.I'm happy

How much time or how many miles should I wait to change my engines synthetic oil?

the same as the extended service interval on your car.

Oil change intervals with synthetic oil

Synthetic oils withstand higher temperatures before breaking down, and have more base stock and less viscosity modifiers. Synthetics wear out, become acidic, and eventually become saturated with suspended soot particles, just like regular oil. Again, an oil analysis is a good investment to determine the optimum oil change interval. Never exceed the manufacturer requirements for normal service.

Synthetic oil was originally developed for high performance racing engines. Mobil tried to popularize synthetic oil for passenger vehicles back in the early 1970's. At the time, Mobil was promoting 20K or 25K oil changes with synthetic, but they soon backed down from this. Synthetic oil is a good choice if you have a vehicle with a high performance engine (in fact synthetic is required for many of these engines). It is also a good choice if your vehicle is operated in extremely cold climates. It has higher resistance to breakdown caused by heat and it flows better in extreme cold. Unfortunately for the synthetic oil industry there is virtually no advantage to using synthetic oil in a non-high performance engine that is operated in moderate climates. You probably could go a bit longer between oil changes with a synthetic, i.e. following the normal service schedule even if you fall into the severe service category, but I wouldn't advise this. In short, synthetic may give you the peace of mind of knowing that you are using an oil that is far better than necessary for your vehicle, but it won't reduce wear or extend the life of the engine. The mistake some people make it to wrongly extrapolate these benefits onto normal engines operated in mild climates, with the ultimate lack of any knowledge being manifested with statements such as ';synthetics provide 'Peace of Mind,' or 'Cheap Insurance,''; or other such nonsense. How much time or how many miles should I wait to change my engines synthetic oil?
BIGTHINGS, If your car is still under factory warranty, abide by their drain intervals. If you hammer a lot of miles on your car in a relatively short period of time It's perfectly OK to stretch the mileage to the maximum recommended by your manufacturer. If your car is out of it's warranty period and you're using an extended drain interval full synthetic Mobil1 says 15,000 miles.

Sorry, but I don't agree with Amsoil's claim of 25,000 mile drain intervals with oil filter changes every 12,000. This is fool hardy, particularly if you live in a cold climate and do a lot of stop and go driving. How much time or how many miles should I wait to change my engines synthetic oil?
Synthetic oil has a change interval every 5k miles, The syn based oils are less likely to wax up in the colder weather than mineral oils and do not break down like conventional oils do. Some oil manufactures claim as 7500k mile interval which is not recommended by top technicians. It is safe to say that a 5k mile change will be sufficient for your application
3000 miles... is the standard.. although manufactureres start using synthetic oil and they say that you can go 7500 without oil change... i dont trust them.. because they just want to make money... though synthetic oil breaks down less compared to regular oil.... you still want to change oil early.... over time the oil becomes dirty and has many wear and tear particles in it.. that oil filter may or may not catch..
usually 6,000 miles or about 10 months

If you could filter out the blow-by in a conventional engine, would synthetic oil last for 25,000+ miles?

That is, if it were feasible to have a separate ';circuit'; for the air in the crankcase to be aggressively exhausted and replaced with fresh ambient air, assuming it's the blow-by being absorbed by the oil that causes the synthetic oils to break down, not the heat in the crankcase or the heat on the cylinder walls. The combustion by-products in blow-by are readily soluble in the synthetic and conventional oils.If you could filter out the blow-by in a conventional engine, would synthetic oil last for 25,000+ miles?
There is very little blow-by in modern engines. There are too many laws about polluting. A good synthetic. like ELF or Amzoil or Mobil One, creates NO sludge and gives off very little vapor. The oil vapors are supposed to be burned up through the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) system. If an engine, weened on lousy regular oil, is de-sludged with butyl cello-solve and most deposits are removed, fresh synthetic oil can last for 25,000 miles or a year and a half. But this depends upon distances driven between start-ups. My Audi's lasted even longer between oil changes. If you could filter out the blow-by in a conventional engine, would synthetic oil last for 25,000+ miles?
Acids break down the oil, and acids are part of the combustion process. The air being ingested has a certain water content and that water usually ends up in the oil and helps to form the acids. The blow by of an engine in good operating condition is negligible. There used to be a device called a Franz oil filter that would allow you to run 10 k miles on regular petroleum based oil. So it is my belief that superior filtration and water absorption are the keys to oil longevity, no matter what type.

What would happen if i put synthetic oil in my old car?

well its not that old.. its a nissan altima 98

its been using regular engine oil for a long time. what would happen if i use synthetic oil? someone told me that it will damage some plastics and cause leaks, then its gonna clean the sludge in the engine and the oil will be dirty in a couple km....

should i continue using regular engine oil or should i switch? What would happen if i put synthetic oil in my old car?
i disagree with your answers

if your putting synthetic in a older motor your going to be having a faster flow rate.

if you want to properly do this.

if you been changing your oil every 3k, and you don't have any oil leak. you don't have anything to worry about. changing to synthetic will not fix anything that's already wrong but won't make anything go bad either.
It may well clean up the old engine...if sludge is keeping the oil from leaking at some of the gaskets you could experience some oil leaks...but you should get better mileage and the engine should run cooler.
you can safely switch to synthetic oil in your application

Is it possible to change to synthetic oil at 50,000 miles?

I have a 2000 Ford Focus with around 50,000 miles on it. I have an oil change coming up, so I was wondering if I could switch to synthetic without any problems. Is it possible to change to synthetic oil at 50,000 miles?
Sure, you can switch at any time. I switched over on my car after 100 000 km ( 62 000 miles ) without any problemsIs it possible to change to synthetic oil at 50,000 miles?
You should have no problems as long as you kept up the oil change intervals before. Most people have problems when the switch because the synthetic oil will clean much better than regular oil, loosening old deposits inside the engine. If they were not very diligent, the deposits ';could'; clog an oil galley and cause some spectacular damage.
You can, but once you go with synthetic you should stay with synthetic
you can use synthetic oil with no problems
Yeah I changed mine at 80000 works great. I also heard that you should change your transmission to synthetic it will last longer

How long does synthetic oil last in mid size car 3000, 5000, 10,000?

I know it last longer than reg' oil but how long can it effectively last before its brakes down. How long does synthetic oil last in mid size car 3000, 5000, 10,000?
Usually about 7500 to even 10,000 depending on brand. Toyota recommends Mobile one to be replaced every 7500 miles. How long does synthetic oil last in mid size car 3000, 5000, 10,000?
If most of your driving falls under severe driving conditions, frequent short trips, lots of idling change it every 5 thousand miles, if the majority of your driving is highway then no more than 10 thousand miles.
The big thing with synthetic oil is that it doesn't burn off of the cylinder walls AS EASY as conventional oil when the spark is lit off. But here's the thing-in our shop, at least, oil change intervals aren't about changing the oil-its about having a skilled , professional eye looking at everything under the hood, under the car, checking tires, etc to keep a small problem from turning into an expensive one. Henry Ford was quoted as saying that he'd GIVE his cars away if he was guaranteed the parts and labor to maintain them, and the OE's make 'way more money from repair parts than they do the cars-so go ahead, leave the oil change intervals at 7500 or 10,000 miles-the oil can take it.

But can your wallet take the repair bills from neglected leaks, etc?

And by the way-its been our experience that switching to synthetic oil if the car has more than 30K on it WILL leak oil-the synthetic seems to find any and every weak seal and exploit it!

I would aslways use synthetic, no matter what the car is. It will be more expensive thoughUse synthetic oil for a Cadillac Escalade oil change?
Since you don't have to worry about money sure use the syn. Believe in the myth. You should change oil every 2500 miles. All oils have an API rating. And all oil breaks down with gasoline. Every time you shut down your engine residual gas leaks down into the oil.
Use recycled oil it better and cheap,
If your motor is high mileage then dont, but if it is relatively new then go with synthetic

Hello. I don't recommend using Mobil 1 5w30 synthetic oil.Reason being,if you did use it,your engine would break down from heat stress. You may want to reconsider that thought, and use 30w or 40w instead...What happens if I use Mobil 1 5w30 synthetic oil in my 18hp garden tractor?
good oil for a two stroker of any kind.
5w-30 or 10w-30 is highly recommended by briggs..... why? it protects just as good if not better then a straight weight, keeps the engine cleaner, and drastically improves cold oil flow..... (below 40 straight is almost like molasses)

You can also not beleive the bull about mixing conventional and syn...... what is a syn blend anyway???

5w-30 mobil one will serve your engine fine, even better then a straight 30 (well actually mobil one 10w-30 or amsoils 10w-30 are double duty oils, can be rated as a straight 30)
If that is the manufactures recommended viscosity oil, it will work just fine, Don't mix regular petroleum oil and synthetic oil!
never heard of synthetic oil before
wont cause any trouble since your using it for lubrcation

I just got a synthetic oil change and now the car is jumping when i shift gears not even 2 hours later?

This car(98 Grand Prix) is used and purchased 3 days ago and was not doing this until after the change.I just got a synthetic oil change and now the car is jumping when i shift gears not even 2 hours later?
Having the oil changed doesn't really affect the transmission. Since you just got the car, chances are the problem was always there. The problem with the car probably just comes and goes.

I had car where it would run great 1 week then run like crap the next week, then good again.

Wouldn't hurt checking the oil level though, which you should do after every oil change to make sure they didn't put in to much or nothing at all(it happens).I just got a synthetic oil change and now the car is jumping when i shift gears not even 2 hours later?
if you have only had the car for 3 days you cannot say that the problem was not pre existing. i see absolutely no link between going to a synthetic and a ';jumping'; condition try this pop the4 hood and double check the oil level and the transmission level, then look around and see if you can locate any wires or vacuum lines that are disconnected (usually around the air filter. either of the transmissions that come in that car are tried and true, and very reliable. get back to me if this does not resolve the problem.
    CHECK YOUR OIL LEVEL

then bring the car back to the mechanics and ask them just to check it over for you. If they say they can't find anything they did wrong, take it to your mechanic, or a well qualified mechanic. Save all your reciepts. The important part is, let the company who did the oil change at least check it out (they will do it for free) and if they see something they messed up you have a good change they will bear the brunt of this. If not, you will have your reciepts showing you followed the right steps, JUST IN CASE you have to take this to court.

Dont worry though, there is probably a realllly simple and dumb thing that is causing your car to do that.

after that, if that';s not the case, it's
Adding synthetic for the first time I believe changed the attitude of your engine system which in turn would change the attitude of your tranny.
Changing the oil to synthetic will not do that you have another problem.
I don't trust synthetic oil. I would have stayed with the real thing.

Which is better - synthetic oil or natural oil?

I've been told that synthetic oil is better for the car engine and can last longer between oil changes. Is that true?Which is better - synthetic oil or natural oil?
Petroleum oils are just fine the additive packages last about 3,000 miles and most manufactures say you can travel 7,500 on an oil change (PLEASE DON'T) If the oil and oil filter is changed out every 3 to 4 thousand miles new air filters when dirty. your motor should outlast the car.

I use 10/30 Mobil 1 motor oil Car came factory filled with 5/30 because of average temperature in Texas. My 6.0 liter 400 hp LS-2 motor uses a cup of oil every 1,000 miles So I have to either replenish add 1 or 2 Qt between oil changes. I never allow any of my motors to run low on oil. I change every 4,000 miles.

Reasons to use $5.50 quart oil #1 you really like your car.#2 synthetic oil takes heat away better almost 15 to 20 degrees in hard driving. #3 better additive package lasts longer between changes. #4 You sometimes forget and drive past your oil change interval.Which is better - synthetic oil or natural oil?
synthetic oil is better compared to natural oil... we ain't cookin' any car in here are we...?

synthetic oil is better because there are additives present in there. these additives help your car to run smoothly and kick your car's maximum performance. compared to natural oil which degrades easily... usually we only use natural oil when there is an emergency, but most of the time s.o. is better...
synthetic oil is the one. they've added chemicals, which may or may not be harmful, but helps to add more features to the oil and helps you car go smoother..........
All good answers, but you all let one thing out, how old is the car.

older cars are better run with natural oils as that is what they were built to run with, newer cars, particularly those with oil fed cam adjustment solonoids must be run on lighter synthetic oils to prevent gumming up.
it depends on what you are runing it in all i can say is ALWAYS cosult the oil manufacturer they will tell you if there oil is suitable. i have 3 cars under 3 years and i run synthetic in all 3 since new the oldest one 3 years and 240'000 km on the clock still runs just as well as the new one i also run lucas heavyduty oil stabiliser in all 3 cars . short answer talk to the manufacturer and the oil manufacturer and Never extend your service intervals the best product and regular service will keep you motors in good condition all my cars have oil and filter every 4500k
Synthetic breaks down slower. So it can be used for a longer period of time before it will allow engine wear.
Pennzoil is a good oil, just use that.

I have never used it, becase all my motors run on semi synth or mineral based oils.

It was extremerly popular with the service centre across the road who service Peugots, Mercedes, Renaults, BMW and other European luxury/performance cars.

It is expensive but I believe it is worth the cost.

If you arent already running full synth, you will need to flush the motor thoroughly, and also replace the filter (Which you should do every oil change anyway).
i used it since i bought my 93 accord se and i got 302,000 miles on that car , i just change it every 8000 to 10,000 miles and keep up with my maintenance, you know timming belt and other stuff, i also used it on my acurar tl and my toyota, i have no problems

Is it safe to mix synthetic oil and conventional??

I had mostly conv oil in my engine, but added a lil of teh synthetic. Will it be okay??Is it safe to mix synthetic oil and conventional??
Robsteriark is correct. Synthetic and natural oils are completely compatible with each other. There are no chemical incompatibility issues. It's no more harmful than mixing Evian water with tap water.

There is little practical downside to mixing natural oil and synthetic, either. the only issue is loss of a small fraction of a synthetic oil's protective quality, in proportion to the amount it is diluted with natural oil.

Natural oils have inferior viscosity index (flow less readily when cold, thin more -- hold their lubrication film less durably -- and lose their lighter fractions from evaporation more readily when hot), but as long as you use the recommended grade and viscosity, and change oil according to the manufacturer's recommendations, they are okay in an emergency.

Synthetic oils are at there best in the worst conditions -- cold starts. When you shut your engine off, the oil is hot and thin, and most of it quickly drains into the crankcase.

After your car has been sitting for a few hours, that oil will have cooled and thickened. When you start the car, the oil that remained between moving parts has a tough job. There isn't much of it, and it's thicker than it was when the car was running, so it's harder for the oil pump to get it out of the crankcase and back where it's needed.

The first few revolutions of a cold engine stress that thin film immensely. In extreme conditions, if it's too thin, it gets scraped away and you have bare metal scraping against bare metal. Even if they do not, this is when the most wear occurs in an engine.

Natural oils are thicker when cold, and when they have been in the engine for a while they will have lost some of their lighter fractions -- the thinner oils that protect best when cold, from evaporation.

That's why synthetic oil protects better in a cold start.

There are chemicals that can be added to natural oils that extend their viscosity index, but every drop of an additive means less oil in a quart to protect your engine.

The differences are small, so adding one quart of natural oil to a crankcase full of synthetic just means instead of getting the full benefit of synthetic, you're getting about 80% of it.Is it safe to mix synthetic oil and conventional??
    It's perfectly fine.

If you are ever curious what ';synthetic blend'; means on some bottles of oil, it is just a mixture more expensive higher quality synthetic oil and less expensive conventional oil.

Any synthetic oil produced in the past few years is completely compatible with conventional oil with no downsides. If you need additional proof, this information can be found on any of the major oil companies' websites.

    Good luck!
Most oils sold retail are mixable /compatible. The racing oils, Castor bean racing oils are not sold retail and don't have SAE ratings for mix-ability. If you mixed SAE rated oils you shouldn't have a problem, Semi-Synthetic oil blends are this way to get the flow of synthetic and cushioning affect of conventional large molecule oils
ok so here is my opion form exprince... i drive a gmc sonma with the 4.8 i recently lent it out to my grandfather and i run strictly synthetic in all my cars and wut he did was put conventional oil in it and it blew the engine if u add only a lil it prob will be okay but what happens is when the syn.. and the conv..... oils mix they have a chemical reaction and if the chemcial reaction is lagre enough it WILL SEIZE YOUR ENGINE ....so you might want to think twice about it so to say the least when they are mixed it is bad and can cause your engine to seize trust me
No problem; it's completely compatible with mineral oil. You now have your own home-brew semi-synthetic oil blend ;-)
It usually is not really a good idea to mix conventional oil and synthetic oil becasue it can potentially damage your engine.
Why would you do that? I think you should use one or the other, but it doesn't make sense to mix it up.
    DANGER! DO NOT MIX!

Did they really put in synthetic oil?

I just had my oil changed and I use synthetic oil. It occured to me that they could put regular oil in and charge me for synthetic and I wouldn't know. Is there any easy way to know for sure they actually used synthetic.Did they really put in synthetic oil?
depends on where you get your oil changed. My shops only buy synthetic oil in bottles. I think because of the price and the quantity that most shops use most cant afford to buy synthetic in bulk. Just watch them pour it in they should be using bottles and not a gun. If you are really unsure get out and make sure the seals on the bottles arent broken before they open them im sure there are some dishonest shops that will put conventional oil in synthetic bottles. good lick and find a trust worthy shop.Did they really put in synthetic oil?
    Nope..... next time watch em...

They could also be really sneaky s.o.b's and pour regular oil in the empty synthetic bottles..., one way to prevent this and do it cheaper, DIY.
well there is an old test that might help, put some of the oil on a screwdriver, a regular slotted one, and try to hold it from the end, in a hanging position. if it is synthetic you can't hold it, if it's oil you should be able to hold it. can't guarantee the results though. But next time watch what they put in.
Sorry there is no way to tell what they used once its in the car.

  • Should I switch to full synthetic oil?

I am currently using Valvoline Maxlife in my 1994 Volvo 960. It has almost 150,000 miles on it and I really want to make it last as long as possible. I change the oil every 4000 miles. Is switching to full synthetic (Mobil 1 High mileage) a good idea or a waste of money?Should I switch to full synthetic oil?
If your going to switch to a synthetic oil at least switch to a good one...via Amsoil, Redline, Royal purple, Lucas......these oils will go 25k to 50k without needing anything but a new filter every 10k (more or less depending on application.) www.amsoil.com they can answer your questions there.. THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND WHEN SWITCHING TO A SYNTHETIC:

1 synthetics have the additives already in them, no need to add more

2 synthetics will clean the sludge and carbon buildup out and keep it out.

3 its recomended you flush the engine before adding synthetics

4 if you dont want to flush the engine, synthetics will mix with any oil

5 synthetic oil is alot more cost effective than standard oil

6 AMSOIL is made right here in the good ol USA.. Superior, Wis

I've been selling and using Amsoil for 10 yrs brad m.....my car and truck are both way over 100k. i change the oil once a year and the filter every 10k. Its not hype, you can really do this....the stuff works. AND if it doesnt the good ol AMSOIL warranty kicks in. any engine failure due to oil is covered by Amsoil. not sure what it is for other brands, but you wont get that with mobil or any other oil that i know of. The standard has changed...most newer cars and trucks come factory with synthetic oil. Why do you suppose that is?Should I switch to full synthetic oil?
I've read alot on synthetic vs. conventional and unfortunately, the detergents that keep your engine clean wear off at the same rate. Synthetic, though, does have its' benefits as far as lasting longer because that's the real purpose behind it. Just change your oil more frequently if you notice the oil is dirty when it is changed at your current 4,000 mile interval. Detergents in either oils only last 3,000 miles though, and since you change your oil every 4,000 miles with conventional, you're going a good 1,000 miles with broken down oil, so in your case, if the engine is clean, you should probably make the switch to synthetic.

If you do switch to synthetic, wal-mart sells a great full synthetic for $13.xx a whole 5 quarts. Bring that to the shop who does the oil changes because they'll charge you a crazy amount for using their synthetic.
If it helps the enviroment..... go go go!

Also change to energy saving light bulbs!!! We have changed all the lights in our house to them!!!
sYNTHETICS ARE GOOD BUT ARE YOU HAVING PROBLEMS WITH CURRENT OIL/ some times leak will happen becuase different blend of oil especially on oil pan gasket.. cost is any thing they are more expensive same amout of oil changes! every 3000 miles? ask shops, parts places. close friends?

friends, what oil they use? ask volvo dealer? too!
if you change your oil often as you do then there is no need to switch.

Hope you are changing the filter as well. You are on the right track.

No need for the extra $$
it has its benefits.its personal preference.if you can afford it go for it.
I read about some guy who drove like 500,000 miles in a 2002 Chevrolet and claimed that 'high-mileage' oil was the trick. My advice: change every 3000 with conventional or every 5000 with the high-mileage synthetic.
just keep doing what ur doing...syn oils are ment to go longer but i cant feel good going 6000,,,10,000 mi lithout changing oil...lol...synthetics are thinner so on an old engine you r asking for leaks...i go 4000 to 4500 mi on reg oil and have 130,000 on truck..no problems...only burns 1/2 qt between changes.
I would say it's a waste of money. Regular motor oil changed at regular frequencies (like you are doing) will be just fine. Keep you car in good tune and fix things as they need to be fixed. Change the fluids on regular schedules and you will give your car the best chance at survival.
Looking at your Yahoo ID(airforcewolf), it looks like you might be interested in the Amsoil story. Fighter pilot Lt. Col. Al Amatuzio realized that if every jet engine in the world used synthetic oil, then it must have benefits for automotive applications as well. He started experimenting and with a team of chemists produced the world's first synthetic motor oil API certified for automotive use in 1972. This was the birth of an industry with Mobil-1 becoming commercially available in 1975. Now every major oil company has followed the Amsoil lead and produced 'synthetics' of their own-- some are synthetic, some are the highly refined petroleum (group III) oils. Amsoil uses group IV polyalphaolefins as the basestock which is highly resistant to thermal and oxidative breakdown. Combined with premium long-life additives this allows Amsoil to have a service life of 25,000 miles/ 1 year when the filter is changed at manufacturer recommended intervals. Amsoil EaO oil filters are the preferred choice since they remain effective for the same 25,000/1 year as the oil. The difference is the filter media. A regular oil filter uses cellulose (paper) as the filter media where Amsoil EaO filters use synthetic nanofibers which filter smaller particles while not impeding oil flow. In fact they are 98.7% efficient at removing 15 micron particles. Beware of filters claiming a % efficiency, but no particle size or vice versa. Amsoil's advertisements include scientific, repeatable ASTM tests.

Good luck-- I put Amsoil 20W-50 racing oil in my '89 5.0 Mustang with over 200K on it and haven't had any problems.
Being a car of that age and mileage, i am not sure it will help you extend life. If you used it 100k miles ago, then yes. With that said, switching shouldnt hurt either. I have run synthetic oil in my high performance engine for over 100k miles, and that thing still puts down great power and has held together despite have the snot kicked out of it.

Although some person has bought into the amsoil hype (or royal purple for that matter) and said only change the filter every 10k, thats incorrect. Sure, you can go longer distances on synthetic, but that is retarded to go 25-50k, regardless of the claims amsoil says. Thats more marketing than smart business practice. Even if you could with that oil, do you really think a 2 grand engine is worth any chance?

To be fair, I go 6-8k between oil change intervals when daily driving, and when I raced a few years back, a lot sooner than that.

Is it worth using synthetic oil in my cars?

I have an 01 Tiburon and an 04 trailblazer. Is it worth using synthetic oil in my cars?
    Not in the Tiburon.

Consumer Reports did a test of the different oils including synthetic several years ago and found no appreciable difference between them. That said, I run synthetic in my car. I think it smokes less when the myriad leaks drip onto the exhaust.

It's a Subaru, leaks are the name of the game.Is it worth using synthetic oil in my cars?
no regular oil is jst fine. u will be jst wasting money since these cars doesnt require them and performance wont change. synthetic oil were developed for high end cars that require the extra protection oil in their engine since they run at a higher level and performance requires them to run smoother. save your money and jst get any regular oil for ur cars
If you like wasting your money then yes. Otherwise just stick with the dino stuff, it will suit you just fine. If you had a performance car, I'd run synthetic, but since you don't there's no point.

Everyone will have an opinion on this, some say yes and some say no, you won't gain anything but you will lighten your wallet.
In a word, yes!! Synthetic oil has a lot of finer qualities including: better fuel mileage, cleaner engine internals (no sludging or varnishing), and longer engine life (from reducing friction). Regular oil ALWAYS leaves deposits somewhere, like in valve lifters or hydraulic tensioner pulleys, and discolors and throttle body plates and rots rubber vacuum hoses. Especially if you don't drive the car vigorously. Over time, regular oils begin restricting oil passageways and if not changed often enough, destroy engine seals. Synthetic oils are like heroes. They protect seals, clean passageways and retain internal cleanliness. Depending upon the product you are using, some oil change intervals may be extended up to 2 years! In the long run, you will save money!
Well for people that don't understand anything about oil, I guess you can used what you want and what you believe that is good for your car. But I am a mechanic myself and tore engine apart. What I do know is that. Conventional oil (regular oil) is very dirty on the engine, and when the car is sitting for a day or two, the movable parts such as crankshaft, connecting rod, valve guides are very dry. Synthetic always leave a film of oil (even weeks when car was not in use) on all movable parts so it is easy to start the engine during wintry days. Also the parts are cleaner. I've been using synthetic oils since they first appeared to any auto store. I mean more than 40 years now. But like I've said, it is a personal choice and follow your own instinct. So far, I have cars with over 250,000 miles and they performed without no problems. No burning oil, things like that.

The truth is, Synthetic carry additives that needed to protects wear and tear to an engine. When a car is sold to the public, car manufactures added 32 oz. of OEM addetives on the oil for break in porposes, but when the new owner changes that original oil, that 32 oz, OEM addetives protection is gone. Most racers know that addetives is very critical to fortified an engine, racing cars or not, that's because they have more knowledge how an engine work then people that doesn't have no idea about what type of oil is best for cars.

What is the best brand of non synthetic oil for a 4 stroke scooter?

I have been sold on Valvoline for years. As far as I am concerned there is no other oil. I run it in my car and in my Goldwing. What is the best brand of non synthetic oil for a 4 stroke scooter?
Why do you want to go non synthetic?

Once you use synthetic oil, can you go back to normal oil?

A mechanic told me today that once you switch to synthetic that you cannot go back to petroleum based oil. I think he's lying.

Another mechanic in a colder climate told me that he uses synthetic in the winter and normal during the rest of the year.Once you use synthetic oil, can you go back to normal oil?
You sure can switch back and forth or even mix the two-- after all a synthetic blend poses no problems. I choose not to mix them because I don't want to dilute the performance of my high quality synthetic oil (Amsoil). Here are some other myths about synthetics: http://www.amsoil.com/redirect.cgi?zo=14鈥?/a>Once you use synthetic oil, can you go back to normal oil?
it won't hurt it one bit that first mechanic is a thief and a liar(thief because he is trying to make someone buy the more expensive oil by lying about it)
should be no difference. sounds like he wants to sell you the more expensive of the two.
I don't see any problems occurring from switching between Synthetic and conventional oils.
your not supposed too - but i suppose its your car, you can do whatever you want ya?
There was some big mystique around the regular vs. Synthetics thing for a while, that you should not just switch back and forth without doing some weird flush or something. My mechanic says that is nonsense, you can switch back and forth whenever. He likes synthetic blends for cold climates. They cost nearly the same as regular and some people feel they protect the engine a little more in cold weather.
switch anytime you want, it won't hurt a thing.
you can go back-n-forth any time. you can mix both. If it is a lube then it does its job.
I've also heard that it is not recommended. Maybe the other guy gets away with it because of a different climate or maybe his car is an older one, but why take the chance. Cars are expen$ive to repair. Different mechanics go to different schools and learn different techniques. Ask someone who graduated from Wyo Tech ... that's the best school!!!!!!!

How much could the USA save on foreign oil import if we all would use a true synthetic oil?

Now that's some progressive thinking. Ever heard of Amsoil? The first synthetic oil API rated for automotive use-- 1972 it came out. Even before Mobil-1.

every car cant run with synthetic its more older cars on the streets than newer ones and synthetic is for something with about 60,000 miles or less and i dont see the logic in your question the price of motor oil has not gone up like gas
    synthetic sucks

Is it true that once you start using synthetic oil in a car you cannot switch back to regular mineral oil?

to all of you expert mechanics. Is it true that once you start using synthetic oil in a car you cannot switch back to regular mineral oil?
NO,,NO,,NO,,it,s no true,,you can switch back anytime you want too,,but i wouldn't,t want to,,because synthetic is better all the way around,,it cost more but is worth the extra money,,i been a certified mechanic for 35 yrs,,and in all my time,,i have to say this is the best oil,,that has ever hit the market,i run it in all y service vehicles,,also in all the customer car,s i do,,also put it in all the re-build,s i do,,and have never had one complaint about it,,but yes you can switch back anytime you wish,,it,s just like doing a regular oil change,,but really like i said the benefit,s of having it in there,,out weigh the cost,,i hope this help,s some.Is it true that once you start using synthetic oil in a car you cannot switch back to regular mineral oil?
NO, Not true. U can change it at any time. if you can stay with the Synthetic. Like Moble one.Do it it's worth the money. The only time I would not put Synthetic oil in and engine is one with high miles like over 90K. It may make it leak oil.
You can switch back. It won't hurt anything. The Synthetic oil would be better but it won't hurt to switch back.
No synthetic oil is 100% synthetic, if mobil one was...... seals would be leaking everywhere because the pao shrinks them. Not to mention the additive pack.

Its untrue, yet not unheard of..... more of a myth really.... guess from old timers not even knowing what it is.....

Synthetics are fully compatible with conventional and visa versa...... whats a synthetic blend anyway?

Its not recommended to switch to syn after high miles on conventional, because conventional does like to hide leaks. A engine raised up on syn can certainly use conventional.... also the engine raised on synthetic will be pretty much spotless, the one on conventional maybe a little varnished and synthetic oils will start to clean that off.
It would not be advisable to swap back most modern cars use fully or part synthetic oils,If its an old car thats using oil its not going to matter a lot.
No, there's no truth to that at all.
If you mean by mineral oil as sae10w30 ect. No it is not true.
I'm not a expert mechanic, but I do know that mineral oil is not a automotive oil.As to your question,I assume you mean that you want to go back to using regular automotive oil in your car after using synthetic oil.You can go back to using regular oil as long as you give the car a complete oil change, including the filter.
I have heard the same thing.. cant remember the exact answer or the reasoning, BUT.. my automotive tech instructor never switched back after he started using it
No, that's not true. You can switch back at any time. The only thing you need to be careful of is not using 100% synthetic oil in a brand new car. You need to give it at least 10,000 miles for the pistons and valves to properly ';seat'; themselves before you use 100% synthetic motor oil. P.S.: You don't use mineral oil in a car engine -- you use petroleum-based oil.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synthetic_o鈥?/a>What are the benifit's of synthetic oil over conventional?
with full synthetic oils not the blends. they are made solely from man made chemicals in a lab. not like that of conventional oils that are refined from crude oil out of the ground that may still have some degree of dirt in it. and its not as pure. from what i understand,,

hope this helpsWhat are the benifit's of synthetic oil over conventional?
I really don't know of any, that I can verify. Quite a few years back, I owned a Packard Automobile, and it was nearly new with only 12K miles on it, at that time Sohio (Standard Oil) came out with a synthetic oil called ';Premex'; or something close, and it was quaranteed to work well in any car, and prevent wear.

I went for this product as I was very fond of this car and wanted to give it the best possible care.

I used it for over two years, and never had to add between changes. I then made a trip from nothern Ohio to the upper peninsula of Michigan, and while there decided to get the oil changed as it was slightly overdue, well, they did not have the Premex product there so I accpeted the best quality oil they had, and from that day on, my car burned oil like you woudn't believe, I used 3-1/2 quarts on the way home, 550 miles, and it never did stop, even after going back to the Premex.

I have not fallen for any claims of synthetic oils since.
you don't have to change it as often. It also doesn't leave a lot of residue in your engine, infact, it tends to clean it out over time. Because of this, If you have leaks in your oil pan and other engine gaskets, you will expose them with synthetic. You will get oil leaks.

Don't use synthetic oil on an older engine because of this reason.

You can change the oil filter only and add a small amount of oil to level off the dip stick at around 3000+ miles. You can go another 3-4000 miles for your next complete oil change.

With conventional oil, you change oil %26amp; filter every 3000 miles.

Synthetic oil is also said to give a small boost of horsepower to your engine whereas conventional oil does not. It reduces friction more than conventional because of its suspension properties. It carries particles with it instead of depositing them on the inner surfaces /walls of your engine.

Synthetic is also more expensive, but worth it down the line.
Less money in your pocket to slow you down.
WARNING DO NOT USE SYNTHETIC OIL IN A MOTORCYCLE. They are the best thing for cars since sliced bread but are worse for motorcycles than metal shavings. If you have the slightest clutch weakness in your bike, synthetics will amplify them and make the clutch slip like a broken torque converter.

Cars on the other hand, benefit greatly from synthetics thanks to energy conserving molecules that slip easier and don't break down under extreme heat. They can last in your car engine for much much longer. I have been running 10,000 mile oil changes on my Chrysler 300M for 2 years now because of Mobil1 SuperSyn.
Stabiltiy of the oil between oil changes. Higher resistance to breakdown from heat.

Is it ok that I use synthetic oil on my 1992 Toyota Camry?

Is it ok that I use synthetic oil on my 1992 Toyota Camry that has about 151,000 miles on it.Is it ok that I use synthetic oil on my 1992 Toyota Camry?
Yes, if your oil pump, main bearings, engine oil seals and gaskets are in good condition. For a 92 with 150k miles, we can only guess at the conditions of these engine parts. Unless we look at an oil pressure gauge with various grades of oil.

Most synthetic oils are rated 5w20 or 0w20. These oils are extremely thin, they will leak past your oil seals more easily than would a thicker 10w30. I say try it, but if your oil pressure gauge reads too low or the oil light comes on, or if you find you're more than a quart low at the next oil change, you might consider switching to a heavier grade of oil.

I drive an 86 Toyota MR2 with 225k miles, and synthetic would not be appropriate for me. The reason is, with 225k miles my main bearings are somewhat worn, and no longer hold up oil pressure as they did when they were new. When I use lower viscosity oils, the oil pressure reads too low on the gauge, especially with the engine hot. I get good results with 20w50.Is it ok that I use synthetic oil on my 1992 Toyota Camry?
it is not recomended that you do that.See the problem is,Is that synthetic oil is a super lube it will find every oil leak possiable in the engine. You should really concider a high miliage motor oil like a castrol brand or a valvoline brand.

If I use a synthetic oil can I change my oil every 6,000miles?

Someone told me that if I use a filter other than a top quality brand it will bypass the oil at 3,000 miles. So unless I uses a Wix or equal filter it will only be good for the first 3,000 miles. Is this true? I don't think so.If I use a synthetic oil can I change my oil every 6,000miles?
Synthetics like Mobil 1 are better against shearing %26amp; breakdown than regular oils, that's why they can go longer than the normal interval. I wouldn't sweat it for 6k or even more miles. As for filters, if you're springing for the high $$ oil it doesn't hurt to spend a buck or 2 on a good oil filter, but most filters are pretty decent unless you're going totally bargain basement. I've always had decent luck w/Fram, but any decent filter should be fine for whatever interval you use for the oil. I recently did switched to Mobil 1 in my Honda with 180k miles %26amp; it was fine for 10k miles.

Ultimately it's what you feel comfortable with - ask yourself how many times you've blown up an engine and your mechanic said it was because you forgot to change the oil at 3k miles. A buddy of mine used to do insurance warranty work on motors and he would regularly get engine oil analysis done on engines that siezed - usually the analysis would put the oil at something like 20k miles before the engine killed itself, so I don't think 1 or 2k miles extra between changes means imminent death for your engine.

Don't get me wrong - I typically change my other cars around 3k miles, but that's just because I want to crawl under it and make sure nothing else is going wrong - the extra 10 minutes and 10 bucks to do the oil is just an excuse to take a look......If I use a synthetic oil can I change my oil every 6,000miles?
An oil filter does not have an odometer on it, so it doesn't know how many miles it has gone. So the answer is no, that is NOT true. Who fed you that line of crap?

Depending on your driving habits, weather, etc, you can probably safely go 6,000 miles on regular oil. Many manufacturers will state in their car manuals that oil changes are recommended every 7,500 miles (unless you do a lot of towing, driving up mountains, do lots of stop-n-go, any driving that puts extra stress on the engine). I never worry about going over 3,000 miles between oil changes, although high mileage vehicles (like mine) are better off not going too far over 3,000 miles.

Synthetic oils tend to need changing less often, but beware, once you put in synthetic oil you always need to use synthetic...can't go back to conventional or you might cause damage to the engine. I personally don't think synthetics are worth the extra $$$ unless you have the likes of a high-end sports car.
You can probably go 6000mi on regular oil Oil is a lot better than it used to be. The thing is how diluted with gas and contaminates is the oil getting and that is the same which ever you use. I am not sold on the expense of Synthetic being worth it but I do spring for Prolong once in a while. Only when your filter is clogged will it bypass. For most situations that is more like 30,000mi.
use filters that r recomended for synoil, if not, change the filter after 3000 miles... Just to be safer. U can go with the regular filters 6000 miles, but u play lottery , u see the difference only in time

Ps: is better to go 7000 m with same syn oil and 2 regular filters changed after 3500 miles, than go with syn oil and one regular filter 5000 miles. Do not go over 8000 miles without oil change. Everything has a limit. Why pushing it?

Also check ur level more often, at first, to see when u start loosing oil, if the car eats too much syn oil is not worth it since is more expensive and u gotta keep adding
Regardless of what is said, I'd continue to keep my oil change at regular interval of at least every 3,000 miles, and always use a top brand quality filter.
Thats baloney, you will be fine if you change the oil at 6,000 miles and use a fram filter.
if you use Full synthetic oil you can go 12 to 15000 miles on a oil change. i run mobile1 full synthetic with a wix filter with no problems. i only change the filter when i change the oil.

I just bought a used car with 31K miles on it, is there any benefit to switching it over to synthetic oil?

The vehicle I bought is a Ford Escape 2.3L 4 cylinder FWD, and I was wondering is there any real benefit to switching it over to synthetic oil from regular oil. I make my oil changes every 2-2,500 miles and replace the oil filter every time.I just bought a used car with 31K miles on it, is there any benefit to switching it over to synthetic oil?
Unless you live in a place that hits extreme cold in the winter, there is little reason to switch to synthetic. Its primary benefit is that it has more precise flow characteristics than conventional oil.

Also, while it is technically correct that synthetic oil does not break down as fast as conventional oil, they both would lubricate your engine for perhaps 50k miles...BUT...they both contain precisely the same additives (aka SL/SM rating) and the chemical package that makes up these additives are made to sacrifice themselves to prevent rust/corrosion, etc in your engine -- and they get used up at precisely the same rate regardless if the oil is conventional or synthetic.

Now...you change your oil a lot. This is very ';old school.'; The old addage of changing your oil every 3k came from when oils had little to no additives, so the oil simply coated and lubricated, and carried contaminates. Now that we are 30-some odd years into lubrication engineering, you can safely change your oil according to what the Ford engineers say in the owners' manual, which I am sure is much longer interval. They have an intimate understanding of the processes inside the engine, and a vested interest in keeping the engine working well even after warranty.I just bought a used car with 31K miles on it, is there any benefit to switching it over to synthetic oil?
First, oil should be replaced every 5000 miles or more. Stop spending money.

Since you asked, here are the benefits of synthetic:

With synthetic you can do oil changes every 10000 miles or more, which offsets the price of the synthetic oil, this is because synthetic does not break down as fast as conventional oil. It might also help fuel economy, and in addition you can expect reduced engine wear and less gunk build up between oil changes. Depending on what type of person you are, you can also find comfort in the fact that synthetic oil reduces dependency on foreign oil and helps the environment.

Personally I use the regular stuff in my 1968 mustang with a 302 and change it every 7000 miles. Just drive the car and don't worry about little things like these.
There are a number of real benefits to changing your oil to synthetic.

    1. independent testing has proven that most premium brands of synthetic oil have the same lubricating value at 6000 miles as a conventional oil has when it is still in the bottle.

    2. synthetic oil is more resistant to high heat and high pressure, which is the reason it was initially developed for turbine engines in aircraft. many small engines run hot enough to break down conventional oil, but synthetic will continue to work.

    3. synthetic oil is more resistant to cold. your average pour rating on a conventional oil is around 0 to -15 farenheit. it's between -45 and -65 for most synthetic oils. that means that cars that needed to wait for the oil to melt with a conventional oil before they were being lubricated are lubricated from start up in cold weather.

    4. synthetic oil extends engine life. castrol, which makes one of the finest conventional oils on the market will double their engine guarantee if you use there synthetic vs their conventional oil... and they're the only company that offers a conventional oil guarantee.

    5. synthetic oil reduces friction which improves hp and fuel economy. most hot rod/custom car magazines have done comparisons and in each case, a good synthetic produces more horsepower in the same car than a premium conventional oil. sometimes as much as 5%. the same is true of fuel economy.

the only down side is price, but given that you can run synthetic longer and still get better protection, it's not really an issue.
    Most important Questions.

    Your driving habits?

    Region you live in?

Daily short trips (less than 10 miles)- long trips - (more than 10)?

Short trips in cold weather can result in the necessity of replacing oil and filter at 1000 mi. Long trips can result in the recommended 3000.

Warm climate - long trips - possibly 5000.

Synthetic is not worth it in cold climate - short trip driving, Yes you can drive more miles before contamination but, not enough to justify the extra cost.

There is an alternative - synthetic blend .
At 2,000-2,500 mile intervals, there is NO benefit to using synthetic at all. Even conventional API SM rated oil can go 5,000 miles these days. The main benefits of synthetics are better flow in well below zero temperatures, higher temperature tolerances (which you shouldn't experience if you have a properly functioning cooling system) and with extended drain intervals past 7,500 miles.
Not really...the only real advantage to synthetic for most people is a longer interval for an oil change... you are already changing oil more often than necessary

Most vehicles require 5000-7500 oil and filter change, this is factory recommendation during warranty period, when they would have to fix problems.( If there ever was a time when the factory would be strict, warranty would be it)

I change the oil and filter in my hotrod at 5000 miles, or four months, and it would qualify for severe service, ( sit for long periods, and then run hard...) I have no problems....
It is best to start out using synthetic when the engine is new. Running synthetic oil at 31k is not doing any good because wear and tear on your engine has already started. Synthetic oil helps prevent wear and tear on your engine, but when it is already broke in, there is no need. Not to mention the cost of the oil is very expensive. Just buy name brand oil, replace oil filter and change it at correct intervals and you'll be fine. My truck has 159,000 miles and I use normal Valvoline SAE 10W 30 ($3.99 per quart) and it runs great.

If I were to buy a brand new car, I would definately run synthetic oil, but if used, I would stick with the normal.

    Hope this helps!
oil change every 2-2,500 car should last into the 400,000 range with or with out synthetic i replace mine at 5000 miles and my car has over 300,000 miles...

benefit to switching it over is that synthetic oil doesnt break down like regular oil does which happens a round 2 to 3000 miles and many run it longer before replacing then it helps but if your doing it right and replacing it then you dont need it
With such a small engine, and oil changes at that frequency, I wouldn't worry about it. Synthetic is realllll expensive, so unless you have some amazing classic or high-performance engine- don't bother.
with syn you can extend to 7000 mi safely--also the oil does not break down and it lubricates better//it clings to surfaces and doesnt coat surfaces like reg oil--and it can operate safely under extreme heat
Longer lasting engine. With synthetic I would do every 6-7k miles or half year what ever comes first. You wear out the engine the most when you first start the car after an oil change so don't get to anal about changing it so often.
i have a 1985 toyota pickup with 365000 miles and i use only synthetic and change it every 3000 5000 miles.
I have a 1990 olds 98 and switched to synthetic, best thing I have done better gas mileage and you can wait 5,000 miles to change the oil
No, unless it is a requirement.
no it will not do any good to your car, regular oil and filter is enough love, good luck

My new Honda Civic has an ';oil life'; indicator. Can I use synthetic oil at my next oil change?

Would the ';oil life'; indicator still work properly? Synthetic oil gets me better gas mileage. My new Honda Civic has an ';oil life'; indicator. Can I use synthetic oil at my next oil change?
the oil life indictor is predicated on how the engine is used and mileage algorythems based on the use of conventional motor oil.

you can use synthetic oil but for the purposes of the Honda warranty you would have to change it in accordance with their recommendations.

the maintenance minder system takes into account mileage driven, engine load and fuel consumed and time since the last service to determine when you should have the oil changed. the range of the light coming on is between 4,000 and 12000 miles per service.

if you decide to go with a synthetic (and I don't see an advantage of doing so given the high quality of conventional oils v. the slight if any increase in fuel economy v. the cost of the synthetics) keep in mind that once you change to a synthetic you can't change back to a conventional oil or you'll get oil leaks from most of the seals in the engine.

if you decide to use the synthetic, just have the light reset following the instructions in your owner's manual and keep a log as to when you need to change it based on the recommendation of the synthetic oil manufacturer. the light can be reset when it starts flashing (15% useful life remaining) without doing any service on the car.

hope that helpsMy new Honda Civic has an ';oil life'; indicator. Can I use synthetic oil at my next oil change?
I have a 01 honda civic, and my mechanic says you can change back and for th no big deal. He did say that the one disadvantage would be the leaks. Report Abuse

i got full synthetic in my 07 civic. i was told also i cant go back to conventional oil too. i think its better for the car all the way around except it is alil more expensive. Full Synthetic Mobil 1 baby!
You're oil life indicator will work fine if you change to synthetic oil. I have a 2008 Honda accord and i run Mobil 1 5w20 synthetic.
Oil life indicator should not be on if it's a new oil. I would recommand to change it ASAP. Synthetic oil no doubt will give you a good mileage.

Why is there a huge difference from a regular oil change to synthetic oil change? $35 compare to $75?

I own a BMW and it requires synthetic oil but I did my research and it uses the same filter as any other car and the synthetic oil is only $1 more than regular oil. So why is it so much more to change it? I took my car to Pennzoil, is this a rip off or what? Why is there a huge difference from a regular oil change to synthetic oil change? $35 compare to $75?
Conventional oil is usually purchased by these shops in bulk (50-gallon drums) while the synthetic is purchased by the case (12 1-quart bottles). This makes the conventional oil considerably cheaper to the shop per quart than the synthetic, even though the price you see on the internet makes them seem almost the same. They account for this difference by adjusting the price of the oil change. Why is there a huge difference from a regular oil change to synthetic oil change? $35 compare to $75?
you can double or triple the milage

    between oil changes

in my truck i went from changing oil

at 3000 miles with regular oil

    to 7500-9000 miles with synthetic

in the long run it costs about the same per year
They protect better, offer better gas mileage, and the oil change interval is longer than standard conventional oil.
    don't do it !

bmw oil is actually a great oil , its not like the 6 $ synthetic at pep boys

( and not using bmw oil can void any warranty with bmw )

i use royal purple in my honda fit ( yes expensive oil in a cheap car ) and i feel its worth it ( my car actually gets rev-ed to 5500 rpms a lot ) it helps with throttle response, cooling, and mpgdon'tdont think it makes a difference in a lot of cars but cars that get rev-ed up and pushed hard it will make a drifference though out the life of the car.
    wow! all the answers

synthetic oil is man made oil, it last longer (more expensive)

    ita a bmw with warrantie

half an hour for a tech plus materials 75 is just right

    plus its garanted

try a vw, bentley or merceds, none are less than a hundred
syn is more money/dont change until 7500 more miles and then re-do with the syn/engines last longer/been using it for 20 years/03 focus w/216k on it and it sees warp drive every day/syn oil in nj is almost 6 bucks a qt

  • Can you switch brands of synthetic oil?

I use Mobil synthetic oil in my '98 CRV. I live out in the country and the closest place uses Valvoline synthetic. Will it hurt my engine to switch or should I travel the extra hour to a place that will use Mobil? Can you switch brands of synthetic oil?
i own a repair shop, and believe me ,it wont hurt a thing to switch it over,,i have done it a few times,,before i switched it over though,,you might just want to buy a case of this stuff,,then you,ll have it on hand when you need it,,that's what i do,,Mobil one is the best you can buy,,and it makes any engine run and perform a lot better,,so id just buy enough of it ,,so if i needed it id have it on hand,,but it wont hurt it to switch it,,that's the good thing about synthetic oil,,good luck,i hope this help,s.Can you switch brands of synthetic oil?
Switching brand names should not make too much of a difference, but the blends might. Be sure that if you are using full sythetic now, stick to full synthetic. Keep it as similiar to the current oil as possible and you should be fine.
I would stay with Mobil 1. It is a Group IV basestock oil (PAO)

Vavoline SYN is a Group III basestock which is molecular re-structured petroleum stock that is considered synthetic. It is a very good oil, much better than conventional but the PAO's are superior products.
It would be fine to use another brand of synthetic, it is more or less your choice what to do. Sometimes oil comes with a big PRICE!! and it is the same no matter what brand you buy. You will probably actually save some money going with the Valvoline, as Mobile is some of the highest priced oil out there.!!!!
As long as the SAE rating of the two oils is the same, no problem. The rating can be found on the container.

I was running mobil 1 full synthetic oil in my 2000 ford taurus, i want to go to a synthetic blend to cut down

on my oil change expenses. The guy at a local auto parts store actually recommended switching from synthetic to synthetic blend. Mileage is about 120000. Is it ok to switch to this?I was running mobil 1 full synthetic oil in my 2000 ford taurus, i want to go to a synthetic blend to cut down
How about changing the oil filter every 3-5K miles? Then just add a quart of Mobil ! and go with that. Co-worker had a small truck with over 240K miles and it still sounded like a new engine. There was no valve clatter or any piston slap. So it must work.

good luck with it.I was running mobil 1 full synthetic oil in my 2000 ford taurus, i want to go to a synthetic blend to cut down
Yes you can, but then you will have to change more often then before, reg oil you change every 3000, blend about 5000 and wit the full syn it's every 7000 so you see it up to you, always remember you get what you pay for. If you change when youre suppose to, it really dont matter what you use. and you can make your own blend, just buy some full syn, and some reg oil and just mix them yourself. Just find them on sale and it really don't matter the brand, good luck.
You can go a lot longer with full synthetic. With a blend you have to change oil as often as you do with regular oil. So you won't be saving money.

Synthetic is not like ';regular oil'; It's not even petroleum. They build it from scratch, and it has much longer molecular chains, so it protects your engine much better. And it doesn't break down into gunk like petroleum oil does.
Synthetic is just motor oil, just more pure.

There's no reason to be worried about switching back and forth.

    ===

You can read much more about synthetic in Valvoline and Mobil1 website. But basically it says the first sentence above.

    good Luck...
It's OK to switch down from full synthetic to syn blend or even conventional oil, it's when u have been using regular oil for a long time and switch to synthetic is when u might have problems.
dont use synthetic oil unless instructed by owners manual in car. all it does is cost more. switch should br OK!

I have a 2006 Toyota Camry, should i switch to synthetic oil?

I have gotten many different responses. Some people say its too thick for a 4 cylinder, and some say it will definitely make the car smoother ad it would last longer. I do drive quite a bit. More than your average driver. Not tooo much either. Thanks for your help.I have a 2006 Toyota Camry, should i switch to synthetic oil?
If you plan on keeping the car until it dies you should switch to a good quality synthetic oil(Mobil 1) and a quality oil filter (Wix is usaully what i get, FRAM is junk, the rest arent bad, Mobil one is the best but a bit overpriced) If you plan on keeping the car for less than 200k miles just keep doing what your doing. One thing though. People that put synthetic oil in there cars tend to notice better gas mileage and this two thick argument makes no sense. 5W-30 dino oil is the same thickness as 5W-30 synthetic. Just buy the one that matches your car.I have a 2006 Toyota Camry, should i switch to synthetic oil?
If they say too thick for a 4 cyl they know nothing as all 4'[s are differant and they are ignorant. Synthetic oil along with all fluids should be synthetic as it will not only make engine last but it will cut friction enough to give you approx. 20-30 Hp and 10-15 lb,s of torque. Report Abuse

sure. The people that say it is too thick don't know what they are talking about.

Good synthetic oils will protect the engine better %26amp; last longer between oil changes. Even if you stick to the standard 5000 mile oil change, the engine will last longer.

Why is the price of synthetic oil rising with conventional oil?

I understand the price of conventional motor oil rising, but why is synthetic rising with it? Surely the production of synthetic oil is getting cheaper, and it's much more common. Shouldn't it be going down. Shouldn't conventional oil, in theory, be more expensive than synthetic? Is there a little something going on here? Possibly the oil companies are paying off synthetic oil production plants? This doesn't really effect my life in a major way, but I'm a curious person. :PWhy is the price of synthetic oil rising with conventional oil?
In one word ';GREED'; and what else are you going to get?

They have you by the short and curleys, same as BANKS and INSURANCE COMPANIES where the CEO is on a bonus, the bigger the increase in profit the bigger bonus he pockets, why would they want to decrease or stabalise profits? Why is the price of synthetic oil rising with conventional oil?
Most synthetic oil is mostly petroleum based. Therefore most of it not synthetic. Only a small part is synthetic. What is sold as ';Synthetic oil'; in the USA is not permitted in other countries. Pure synthetic oils are extremely expensive.

Shouldnt the price of gas be way down for those hybrids by it isnt so its the same with oil no matter what its made from %26gt;%26gt;I think we need to convert to natural gas nowwww not ten years from now as Congress talks about course they are just allll talk%26gt;%26gt;thats why any one for re election Im voting out

Can I put synthetic oil in an older car?

    Hi,

I've got a 1998 Honda CR-V, the manual recommends 5w-30, so I was considering a Mobil 1 5W-30. I've heard it may cause leaks. Does this sound like a good idea or would anyone recommend a different oil?Can I put synthetic oil in an older car?
If you don't have any leaks now then you won't have any problems... The consistency of the oil is the same.. The difference is the contents of the synthetic oil.. They use a silicon base lubricant which gives the engine more protection,, it transfers heat faster and lubricates better...So in a since it will be better for your engine.....Leaks may occur after the oil change because the new oil will clean out the sludge build up which may be plugging leaks which you may already have........Good LuckCan I put synthetic oil in an older car?
yes you can use castrol instead of mobil 1 the both do the same thing but castrol is cheaper the mb1
If it's really old, the synthetice might not help, because of the oil being so thin. And yes, leaks, happen if it is too thin. Just go for normal oil, or replace all seals and gaskets and then use synthetic oil.
It all depends on how many miles you have on it but you can add synthetic buts not reccomended but if you want to use it I would reccomend using one like valvoline maxlife or pennzoil they both are semi synthetic and have an additives package to seal any small leaks you may have I have a car with 1860000 on it and I use max life in mine
It's generally accepted that it won't make your car leak any more than it is now. Synthetic won't cause leaks to form. It's up to you to decide if the benefits will outweigh the cost ($$)

It certainly won't hurt but it may not help much.
If your car doesn't leak now, synthetic wont cause it to. As long as the engine is mechanically sound and has had normal maintenance then switching to synthetic will be good for it. Here's my recommendation: http://www.amsoil.com/lit/databulletins/鈥?/a>

  • Would synthetic oil make an older car have lower oil pressure?

I know that I have posted a million questions about my car but would synthetic oil have an impact on the engines oil pressure? Because when I switched from regular to synthetic my engine does run better and it does get better gas mileage but the oil pressure gauge on the dash is showing a lower oil pressure reading why would this be? The engine is a GM 3.1L v6 with 163,000 miles. Also the engine is not leaking oil out of the front or rear seals and I have replaced all of the gaskets on the engine when I first got the car 3 years ago. it leaks no oil at all.Would synthetic oil make an older car have lower oil pressure?
most likely when you started using better oil, it got rid of all the junk that conventional oil leaves behind. and with less restriction, the oil pressure can be a little lower. and if it runs fine, leave it aloneWould synthetic oil make an older car have lower oil pressure?
    yes it does...

The mistake some people make it to wrongly extrapolate these benefits onto normal engines operated in mild climates, with the ultimate lack of any knowledge being manifested with statements such as ';synthetics provide 'Peace of Mind,' or 'Cheap Insurance,''; or other such nonsense.

    and about filters...

    Manufacturer Filters

This is usually the best choice for your vehicle.

    Aftermarket Filters

These are filters made by companies like Fram,Wix, Motorcraft, Lee, AC/Delco, Bosch, Casite, Hastings, Pennzoil, Valvoline, and Purolator. The quality of these filters varies greatly. In many cases the auto manufacturer uses these filters themselves. Private label filters are made by these companies as well.

    Trade Brand Filters

These are filters made for the oil change industry. They are actually no worse than the poorer quality aftermarket filters. You can't buy these at an auto parts store but you'll see them used at many of the quick oil change places.

    Premium Filters

Some manufacturers of synthetic oil also make so-called synthetic filters. These are high priced and have not been proven to provide any benefit over a high quality manufacturer of aftermarket unit.
some different brands of oil filters may affect your oil pressure by as much as 20 psi
no synthetic has the same viscosity as normal oil.
If you are using a lighter weiight oil it may affect your oil pressure. If you are unsure, switch back to regular oil and see what happens.
The lower oil pressure is caused by the lower internal friction of synthetic motor oil.

With conventional oil, the molecules are irregularly shaped and sized. So when the oil has to flow through a passage the molecules have their own friction to overcome, making the oil harder to pump and therefore causing artificially high oil pressure.

With synthetic oil, the molecules are the same size and shape, because they are engineered that way, causing much less internal friction and therefore slightly lower oil pressure, but more volume of oil. This lower friction is also responsible for the cooler operation, and increased efficiency(read better fuel mileage) of engines lubricated with synthetics.

My mechanic is suggesting that I use synthetic oil for my next oil change. Does this make a big difference?

I have recently purchased a new vehicle. I was told that synthetic oil is a better value in the long run. I have typically paid about $25 for conventional oil change. What is the price that I should be looking at if I decide on using the synthetic oil?My mechanic is suggesting that I use synthetic oil for my next oil change. Does this make a big difference?
I wouldn't use it on a new car, the parts have to break in first. After 10K miles you can start using synthetic oil. You will get better gas mileage (1+mpg for my Durango) and you don't have to change it so often (i change mine every 5,000 miles). I pay about $50.00 to have mine done, compared to $22.00 for regular oil.My mechanic is suggesting that I use synthetic oil for my next oil change. Does this make a big difference?
I'm sold on synthetic oil for new cars.

This isn't to plug a particular brand, but I've used Amsoil (a synthetic motor oil) in my Pontiac Aztek since I purchased it new in 2001. With 136,000 miles on it, the engine doesn't leak at all; I think I've added a half quart of oil once between scheduled changes in all that time. I also saw the Aztek, fully loaded and AC blasting, pull a fully loaded pop up camper (which maxed out its 3500lb towing capacity) all day long at 75MPH in 90 degree heat without any signs of the engine overheating.

Here's the part that other respondents may take issue with, but at least with Amsoil, they recommend only changing the oil every 12 months or 24,000 miles, and the filter every 6 months. I've done that faithfully and had ZERO engine problems related to oil. Even if you don't take it to the extreme that I have, you can definitely change oil less frequently when you use the synthetics, which more than offsets the additional cost and also adds the convenience of fewer changes.
As long as the vehicle is new, this is a good idea (sometimes it's not a good idea to switch from conventional to synthetic on a much older vehicle). However, synthetic oil is much more expensive. A typical oil change will probably run you $70-80 with synthetic.

If you're seriously considering it, I would suggest learning to change the oil yourself. You can buy synthetic oil in bulk from Wal-Mart or some other general chain at a discount.

What happens if you preform an oil change on a vehicle using synthetic oil and you use regular motor oil?

Is it possible that it could ruin gaskets around the cylinders causing them to leak oil onto spark plugs? It's an older vehicle (89 Civic Si with a ZC engine swap)

Just wondering what would happen, im trying to diagnose what the problem is currently its leaking oil into the cylinders after an oil change! :(What happens if you preform an oil change on a vehicle using synthetic oil and you use regular motor oil?
Synthetic or regular motor oil is immaterial, they can even be mixed without any bad effects...

';Leaking'; onto the spark plugs? Outside, ';on top'; of the spark plugs, is a valve cover gasket most likely. ';oil soaked'; plugs when you pull them out, can be cracked or broken valve, bad rings, or bad head gasket.

Try a compression test once, then with oil squirted in each cylinder, that will help check for rings. Valve seals you'll have to pull the valve covers to visually check...

Head gasket, pressure test your cooling system for one. What happens if you preform an oil change on a vehicle using synthetic oil and you use regular motor oil?
If the oil burns on acceleration then the rings are bad. If it burns after you let off the gas then the valve guides are bad.
No problem at all. Get all the old oil out (as much as possible), and adjust your change interval accordingly.
all depent on ,who did the change?

    YOU or the MECHANIC???

    same oil numbering?

most of the mechanics,in the internet will say,it's not a big deal to change the oil.

    well!!!..........yes it is!!!!
You might have needed a valve cover gasket for a while. While it's possible that switching oils might affect seals; I've switched from Mobil One to regular oil with no problems. I would attribute it to the age of the car. After a while the seals are going to leak. The gasket shouldn't be that hard to change or expensive.
how are your valves. the oil itself wont cause a problem but if the seals are worn then you could have a problem. might be time to pull the top half of the engine off.
It depends on how many miles your car has....if the gaskets have hardened and synthetic oil is introduced...it may -resoften them and cause leaks....

The truth is, if you already have some very small leaks...Synthetic oil will seep through those cracks much faster due to its commutative properties...the molecules are much smaller....and are thus more prone to penetrating small crevices.
when synthetic and regular oil are introduced to eachother they create very high pressure that results in gasket failures. i doubt that it could have an effect on the head gasket, but for sure it can on the oil pan gasket and others seals in the crank case. best not to change to different oils in an engine. just give it one kind for life is best i believe.
You probably have a worn out engine (worn rings or valve guides/ seals). Thats the only way oil gets into the cylinders.

    Do a compression check.
no you cant ruin the cyl head gaskets as they dont come in contact with motor oil unless the piston rings are gone. if you have oil leaking into the combustion chamber its the valve guides. changing from syn oil to reg oil makes no differance. #2, if your oil filler is in the valve cover then it is the valve guides!
If you PREFORM an oil change, then you have not really formed it yet.

What is the difference between SAE oil and synthetic oil?

also, how often do you have to change each? What is the difference between SAE oil and synthetic oil?
synthetic is betterWhat is the difference between SAE oil and synthetic oil?
SAE is the Society of Automotive Engineers.

Among other things, they develop standards for automobiles.

The API (American Petroleum Institute) specifies oil grades.

Regular motor oil is refined from petroleum oil. It's also called mineral oil, since it comes from underground petroleum deposits.

Synthetic oil is a lubricant which is synthesized from feedstock hydrocarbons, such as natural gas, coal, oil shale or bituminous tar sands.

You change the motor oil based on your vehicle manufacturer's service recommendations for standard or severe usage conditions.

For mineral oil, most cars can operate with an oil change interval of up to 5000 miles. Severe use would recommend changing oil at 3000 mile intervals.

For synthetic oil, standard operating conditions could permit an oil change from 10-15,000 miles. Or 7,500-10,000 miles for severe usage conditions. But it would be best to check your owner's manual.
Synthetic is man made from man made materials such as plastics and rubbers, etc; SAE is naturally occurring oil that has been refined.

Synthetic usually runs cleaner, is better for your engine, but more expensive.

Every oil can be different as far as changing them at certain times.

Is it OK to use synthetic oil in my Integra?

I have a 2000 acura integra LS hatchback with 87000 miles on it. Is it ok or even preferred to used use synthetic oil or a blend? Is it OK to use synthetic oil in my Integra?
Depending upon the severity of your Winter's and If your car sits outdoors ant length of time, the switch to a full synthetic motor oil would be a smart move. Full synthetic 5W-30 pours nearly 18 degrees Farenheit lower than regular oil. Mobil1 5W-30 pours @ -52 degrees below 0 Farenheit. Cold starts is where 80% of all engine wear occurs. It's to your advantage for the oil pump to force as much volume of oil to critical engine parts as quickly as possible. More volume of oil also cools frictional surfaces more efficiently. It's a proven fact that lower viscosity energy conserving motor allows the motor to create more horsepower because the oil pump turns easier.

The entire additive package is better in full synthetic motor oil. Among these are: detergents, anti-wear, anti-oxidation, and the flash to fire point. Synthetic oil is naturally more slippery so you may squeeze out a bit more mileage.

Don't waste time thinking about synthetic blend oil. It's a big scam by the oil companies to charge more for the oil yet none of them actually tells the consumer the percentage of synthetic in the bottle. Who knows, it could be as low as 1% and qualify as a semi-synthetic. There are no rules that regulate these wild claims.

If you make the switch use discretion concerning wild extended drain intervals. Since your car is out of warranty now, you may wish to use extended drain full synthetic oil only if you run a lot of miles quickly on your car. For my money I've always stuck to the car manufacturers recommendation of 5,000 mile drain intervals using regular Mobil1 in my 04 Toyota Camry. Interestingly the Toyota dealer I go to stocks Mobil1 on the shelf. Is it OK to use synthetic oil in my Integra?
Synthetic oil is much better than conventional motor oil it has a much longer life than conventional oil you know Mobile 1 full synthetic is GUARENTEED to protect up to 15,000 miles although i run about 8,000 miles beteween oil changes with Valvoline SYN Power..Another big plus is if you didnt know synthetic oil is not made from crude oil pumped out of the earth it is 100% man made.Of course it can cost up to 8.00 a ouart but in the long run it is worth it...
SYNTHETIC IS THE BEST THING YOU CAN PUT IN YOUR ENGINE, AND YOU CAN GO UP TO 7K BETWEEN OIL CHANGES, BUT ID STILL GO ABOUT 5K
no, you are just wasting your money. As long as you change your oil at a normal interval, you should be fine.

Is it to early to change over to synthetic oil?

I have a 05 Pontiac G6 with 40K miles on it. Is this to early to change over to synthetic oil? What synthetic oil is best and what filter should be used? List a few types please. Thanks! Is it to early to change over to synthetic oil?
you can change it whenever you want to but i recommend you run 3 or 4 times with semi-synthetic because if you switch over to full synthetic it could damage your engine as for types of oil, i say Mobil 1.Is it to early to change over to synthetic oil?
No, it is not too early.

In fact you could have used it from day one. Modern engines are machined with such great accuracy and to such tight tolerances that break-in is pretty much a thing of the past. As a matter of fact, GM is now delivering all their high-end cars with Mobil 1 from the factory. The reason they don't in their less expensive cars is that owners are less willing to pay for the more expensive oil changes, the engines themselves can certainly benefit from synthetic in the same way as the engines in expensive cars can.

Hype notwithstanding, there is no good reason not to use oem oil filters. Most aftermarket filters (fram in particular) are cheaply made and not as efficient as oem. Try sawing one in half if you don't believe me: you'll be surprised...

As for oil: Mobil 1, Amsoil, Red Line, Lucas, Royal Purple. Watch out for Castrol Syntech, Pennzoil, Valvoline, Quaker State synthetics, etc.. they are good oils, but are not real synthetics in the sense that they are still highly refined dead dinosaurs, in fact they cannot be sold as ';synthetic'; outside North America.

By the way, it is absolutely untrue that synthetic oils don't mix with mineral oils. You can mix any modern synthetic with any mineral with no problems whatsoever. I don't know why people still believe that they can't...
no its never too early too change over to synthetic,if i was going to switch it though id go with mobil one full synthetic in it, its the best there is on the market right now and you don't have to flush one to change it either,it mixes well with conventional oils ,you could have changed that one over at 20 thousand not hurt anything, use a 10-w-30 in it though keep it as thin as possible for as long as possible, good luck.
I would make absolutely sure that you can use a complete synthetic oil in a gasoline engine.

I use Mobil 1 in my VW Diesel since it was new.

But, diesel engines are tighter and have a higher compression ratio than gas.

I would advise you to research this idea very thoroughly before attempting to switch over.

You could / can cause engine damage......
No, I believe that sounds like a good time to do it! Short and simple! Best kind are probably Mobil 1, Amsoil, or Royal Purple. Filter is a filter and Mobil 1 says to use theres with there oil but you realy don't need to.

Fram filters are JUNK! Buy a Wix, much better quality. I have seen a cut out of both and what a difference. If your Fram filter stops filtering, the motor will still try to pump oil through the filter whereas Wix would by pass the filter until its changed.
You can switch to the synthetic anytime and it won't hurt a thing, mobil 1 and royal purple are two of the best synthetics but all synthetics are good and you can't go wrong with them, you can use any type filter you like as you don't have to use a special filter with synthetic.
No its not to early I actually would suggest it. I suggest going with Valvoline full synthetic it tested better than mobil 1 but either are pretty good oil. You can go with a mobil 1 oil filter or if they make them for that model K%26amp;N filter.
The type of oil needed depends on what your engine calls for. It's never too late to change to synthetic. Synthetic is the best!! Mobil1 has got to best the best in my standards though.
No... there aint nothing wrong with using synthetic oil. as long as you use the weight oil your car calls for. your car proble calls for 5w 10 or 5w 20
it never to early the one i run is mobil 1 full synthetic and a fram oil filter
Mobil 1 and you can use it from day one.
I switched over our small SUV to full synthetic at 40K, no problems.
