Is it to early to change over to synthetic oil?

I have a 05 Pontiac G6 with 40K miles on it. Is this to early to change over to synthetic oil? What synthetic oil is best and what filter should be used? List a few types please. Thanks! Is it to early to change over to synthetic oil?
you can change it whenever you want to but i recommend you run 3 or 4 times with semi-synthetic because if you switch over to full synthetic it could damage your engine as for types of oil, i say Mobil 1.Is it to early to change over to synthetic oil?
No, it is not too early.

In fact you could have used it from day one. Modern engines are machined with such great accuracy and to such tight tolerances that break-in is pretty much a thing of the past. As a matter of fact, GM is now delivering all their high-end cars with Mobil 1 from the factory. The reason they don't in their less expensive cars is that owners are less willing to pay for the more expensive oil changes, the engines themselves can certainly benefit from synthetic in the same way as the engines in expensive cars can.

Hype notwithstanding, there is no good reason not to use oem oil filters. Most aftermarket filters (fram in particular) are cheaply made and not as efficient as oem. Try sawing one in half if you don't believe me: you'll be surprised...

As for oil: Mobil 1, Amsoil, Red Line, Lucas, Royal Purple. Watch out for Castrol Syntech, Pennzoil, Valvoline, Quaker State synthetics, etc.. they are good oils, but are not real synthetics in the sense that they are still highly refined dead dinosaurs, in fact they cannot be sold as ';synthetic'; outside North America.

By the way, it is absolutely untrue that synthetic oils don't mix with mineral oils. You can mix any modern synthetic with any mineral with no problems whatsoever. I don't know why people still believe that they can't...
no its never too early too change over to synthetic,if i was going to switch it though id go with mobil one full synthetic in it, its the best there is on the market right now and you don't have to flush one to change it either,it mixes well with conventional oils ,you could have changed that one over at 20 thousand not hurt anything, use a 10-w-30 in it though keep it as thin as possible for as long as possible, good luck.
I would make absolutely sure that you can use a complete synthetic oil in a gasoline engine.

I use Mobil 1 in my VW Diesel since it was new.

But, diesel engines are tighter and have a higher compression ratio than gas.

I would advise you to research this idea very thoroughly before attempting to switch over.

You could / can cause engine damage......
No, I believe that sounds like a good time to do it! Short and simple! Best kind are probably Mobil 1, Amsoil, or Royal Purple. Filter is a filter and Mobil 1 says to use theres with there oil but you realy don't need to.

Fram filters are JUNK! Buy a Wix, much better quality. I have seen a cut out of both and what a difference. If your Fram filter stops filtering, the motor will still try to pump oil through the filter whereas Wix would by pass the filter until its changed.
You can switch to the synthetic anytime and it won't hurt a thing, mobil 1 and royal purple are two of the best synthetics but all synthetics are good and you can't go wrong with them, you can use any type filter you like as you don't have to use a special filter with synthetic.
No its not to early I actually would suggest it. I suggest going with Valvoline full synthetic it tested better than mobil 1 but either are pretty good oil. You can go with a mobil 1 oil filter or if they make them for that model K%26amp;N filter.
The type of oil needed depends on what your engine calls for. It's never too late to change to synthetic. Synthetic is the best!! Mobil1 has got to best the best in my standards though.
No... there aint nothing wrong with using synthetic oil. as long as you use the weight oil your car calls for. your car proble calls for 5w 10 or 5w 20
it never to early the one i run is mobil 1 full synthetic and a fram oil filter
Mobil 1 and you can use it from day one.
I switched over our small SUV to full synthetic at 40K, no problems.
