Synthetic oil?

I have 2004 Toyota RAV4 that has 100K miles. I was wondering if switching to synthetic oil has any benefits. And which is the best synthetic oil available on market?

Thank you.Synthetic oil?
Not really... change your oil as recommended by the OEM, and you'll be fine. For the most part synthetics are way over rated, and hyped up too much!

- Good Luck!Synthetic oil?
stick with what ever you are using. no sense in changing now
you should not change oil types this late in the game. follow your owners manual.

synthetic oil has different flow and wear characters that may affect its operation
I reccomend you stay with petroleum based oil because thats what you are using now. Follow manufacturers directions for frequency and type(weight). I am a firm believer in Castrol GTX products - they are a great detergent type oil that helps to keep the insides of your engine clean and ';Gunk-free';.

One major reason to not switch is that synthetics are ';slipperier'; (if thats a word) than petroleum based oils. Which means that if there is a small leak either internally or externally , it will become a ';bigger'; leak by the very nature of having a slipperier oil. Also some oils will have an adverse reaction to one another - and I don't believe the benefits justify the possible agrevation.

Try Castrol GTX or Castrol GTX high milage oil.
I wouldn't recommend it. Your engine has adapted to regular oil over the past 100k, switching to synthetic at this point would be crazy, Though it would probably take a while for you to see any probs come from the switch, it just wouldn't be worth it. And the synthetic oils cost more. Why pay more for something that doesn't benefit your engine at all.
