Synthetic oil?

i have me a 93 ford truck and i have been tossing around the idea of using synthetic oil but i have heard that it could have a negitive effect on such i high milage engine.Synthetic oil?
You heard right. I would not start using synthetic oil in a older truck like that. Here's why: As the miles and years rack up on your truck, the conventional oil can tend to leave some deposits in your engine (even if you change it regularly). That gunk build up can actually plug holes that develop that would otherwise leak. Synthetic oil has much more powerful detergents in it than conventional, and when you switch over on an older, higher mileage vehicle, those detergents can actually start to break up and remove those deposits like it is supposed to do. The down side is that it can actually remove the deposits that are plugging leaks, and a while after switching over, your engine starts leaking oil. Now, this doesn't always happen, but if it does, you are going to have to take your truck in to get those leaks repaired. Also, the detergents can start to beat up some gaskets if they are only in so-so shape, and that can also cause a leak. My advice: in your 14 year old truck, stick with conventional. However, when you buy a new truck, switch over to synthetic after about 10,000 milesis you want. I have been using full synthetic in my truck since the 10K mark, and I just turned over 80,000 with no problems at all. Hope this helps.Synthetic oil?
ive always just used thicker oil in my older vehicles like 10w30 or 10w40......never really saw the point of the high mileage junk and synthetic is only used in my mustang.....whatever u do stay away from pennzoil it is junk and leaves gunk in your engine
I haven't heard too many about switching other than the fact that synthetic is supposed to be hardier and is way more expensive...

If you are worried about the seals and such, try a synthetic blend... Best of both worlds.
theres somethin about the viscousity of syntec that jus dont hold up so great with high milage engines. But,thats jus my experiences.......urs may have better results!!!!!
Synthetic Oil Is Way Better Than Conventional Oil In Being Better Lubrication, And Better Cold Starting. If You Are Not Blowing Smoke,Or Having Other Signs Of An Expiring Engine, I Think You Would Be Better Off With Synthetic Or Synthetic Blend.
Synthetic oil is worthless. Its is now used in differentials, and they start humming early. I would never used it in an engine
