Synthetic oil in my corolla, what exactly are the advantages?

I recently changed my engine oil and this time put synthetic engine oil from mobile1. so...

what is it that I am getting out with it in my engine?

ThanksSynthetic oil in my corolla, what exactly are the advantages?
No, you don't need to ';stick with it.'; If you're REALLY curious, check bobistheoilguy.com But few people are THAT curious.

You're going to get slightly better gas mileage, slightly better performance, any seals and gaskets that come in contact with oil will last a bit longer, and you can go around twice as long between oil changes. On my cars, when I change my oil, I look to see if it still looks fairly new coming out of the oil pan. If it does, I'll wait another 1k miles next time, until you can tell the oil was actually used.

Remember, oil is black, additives are different colors. As you heat the oil up, the additives get burned out. That's what makes the oil turn black.Synthetic oil in my corolla, what exactly are the advantages?
ok so the big difference is that synthetic is good for around 5,000 miles while conventional oil needs to be changed every 3,000 some other advantages are that synthetic is better on your motor also
Advantages are all the molecules should be the same size, as opposed to crude oil, which will always have a few larger and smaller, which will turn to sludge and burn off respectively. The real advantage of synthetic oil is its much lower pour point, which is to say that on very cold starts, you want it in there. Basically, conventional oils can only get so cold before they move like tar, while synthetics can get much colder. Other advantages are present, but that's the only one that is a reason to switch unless you're just being meticulous, which is fine in its own right.

Mobil 1 is good oil, but don't go by that site of theirs. They're still a company trying to sell their product, and some of that info is not true or irrelevant. You still have to change your oil, just a little longer, like has been said, but until they come out with synthetic gasoline without sulfur and such, you're still going to get those contaminants in your oil. And those ';rings of different sizes and shapes'; they mention is relevant, but all oils have additives that are just like that... except they expand and contract at specific temperatures. That's how we get viscocities like 10w-30. Otherwise, the oil would be nothing by the time it got to engine temperatures. And yes, those break down just the same whether they're in synthetic or not.

The time-honored myth that once you switch, you must stay, or that it's only good if you always used synthetic is just plain not true. I mean it doesn't make any sense on top of everything... Any chemicals in synthetic react with chemicals in regular oil to form a corrosive or in any way destructive substance? I think not.

I've answered this question to someone else in more detail. If you want, you can read that one here:

Hear it from the ';horses mouth';:

there's plenty of them, the best advantage is that it will help your engine last a lot longer and also make the engine get better mileage because it lubricates a lot better, and you also don't have to change it as often i use it and i only change it every 8500 miles, but i get better gas mileage when i use it,its makes an engine last a lot longer,i,ll put it this way its the best thing you can do for your engine, good luck with it.
if this is the first time, then there really is no benefit.

You would have to use synthetic more then one time, to get the benefits from it.
Not much difference, just costlier. Once you start with synthetic, you need to stay with it. I use a blend in my 50,000 mile car.
Check your Owners Manual. Synthetic oils are as good for 15,000 and that is no joke if you drive normal. I change mine when my car tells me to. I have a Chevy Impala and the Computer tells me to change the oil 2 times a year in the way I drive. I use Mobil 1, since Wal Mart has it, but any one is good as the other. Do not let fool you a Purple Die on the Oil makes it better.

Anyway, you can drive up to 10,000 or a year. Is an Old Myth to change the oil every 3,000 you do not need to. If you drive less than 10,000 a year on Synthetic you only need one oil change. Aircraft Turbine Engines do not require to change the oil like a car does and they run way much hotter and they use synthetic oils.

There is a gimmick on TV. They take a frying pan and put oil on it! What a hunk of crap. Your car runs about 190F tops at 212 and that is burning (Boiling point of water is 212F or 100C at 1 atmosphere of pressure). That is as hot as boiling water. A frying pan can go to 350F or even more. Therefore you will burn the crap out of anything. That is the most misleading commercial I ever seen on oils.
