What will Synthetic oil do to my truck?

Will it add any HP? Will it protect the engine more? What will Synthetic oil do to my truck?
Toyota and vw..... with they're sludge prone engines (not all of em, can't remember the exact engine design) recommend syn..... because it keeps them spotless.

IT may add a little hp from essentially less friction, it will pump easier in lower temps, and WILL NOT shear like a conventional oil will (ie go out of grade) 5w-30 conv. becomes a 20 weight after 2 thousand miles or so..... syn will not. What will Synthetic oil do to my truck?
well paul and rwings 8215 you may have changed the oil but unless you have rebuilt engines before seeing the difference in the engine with the synthetic oil you would know that it does make a difference it makes the engine run smoother and protects better and keeps the inside from gumming up it is well worth the money
Synthetic oil is ';slicker'; than regular oil so it helps your engine perform better and last longer. It won't add any horsepower but it will restore power that you may have lost. It will help protect the engine by preventing components from wearing out quicker than if you had regular oil.
Yes and Yes, it will help in every way, It pays for itself, since you dont have to change it as often I use Pennzoil Platinum
some years back, consumer reports magazine did a test comparing different brands of petro-oil and synthetics, running both in taxi engines for 100,000 miles, and it was their determination that synthetics were basically overrated, and not worth spending the extra money to use them.

An engine that is maintained properly will last just as long with regular, petroleum based, quality oil is the bottom line here

P.S.

Hey firefighter, ';gumming up'; is something you will see ONLY when you DON'T change oil regularly. IT is the result of NEGLECT! Come on man, face the facts.

AND, yes, I have built more than my share of engines, and have seen FIRST hand the result of neglect: a build up of crud so thick that you could barely SEE the rocker arms. It had to be scraped off by hand before hot tanking the heads.
It's has a greater lubricating capability than regular oil. It also allows for a hotter running engin, providing more efficiency. I use it in my F150...no problems. Advice: do not mix synthetic with regular...do one or the other.
thank you Paul. You are the only one here who gets it. The only thing synthetic oil will do to your truck is cost more money. I don't know where people get their facts about synthetic oil but it is not all its cracked up to be. The only difference is this: Conventional oil comes from the ground and has to be filtered over and over to get all the impurities out. This is done 99% successfully with major brand oils. Synthetic oil is man made so there are no impurities in it. So the oil is about 1% cleaner. The additive packages are identical in synthetic and conventional. They both get dirty around 5000 miles. You cant go longer with synthetic oil between changes. The only time I would suggest synthetic is when you have to use it for warranty like in a corvette.
It will make it last longer. We have only used synthetic oil in our vehicles and it works wonderfully. You still need to change it regularly though.
