What is the advantage of synthetic oil over natural oil for lubrication purposes?

Synthetic oils are a mix of man made hydrocarbons such as polyoelfins, esters, etc. Natural oils are based on petroleum distillates and, like synthetic oils, are a mix of various hydrocarbons. They actual formulas are different though...

as to advantages of synthetics over natural oils.

better high low temperature performance

better cold startup performance

less thermal breakdown

less frequent oil changes = better for environment

less evaporation

these are real benefits. but there is a cost to them.... synthetic oils are very expensive. but they are getting cheaper relative to petroleum based products. I expect that soon they will be equal. What is the advantage of synthetic oil over natural oil for lubrication purposes?
Can be designed for a specific use say for example racing. Oil for racing car- what specifications/characteristic ts do we need for racing? then build them in to the oil/

what specifications/characteristic do we need for Lawnmower engine oil?

build THEM characteristics in to the oil.

With natural oil you're pretty much stuck with the natural make up of oil to do a wide range of applications which is a compromise. What is the advantage of synthetic oil over natural oil for lubrication purposes?
It can withstand Higher temperatures without breaking down and maintains it's viscosity over a greater temperature range.

It has nothing to do with saving the planet. In fact synthetic oil is worse for the environment than conventional oil.
synthetic oil is a souped up version or regular oil so it does the lubrication job better more heat resistant ...and heat is the worse enemy of friction ..
our planet will not get destroyed for one. Orangutans will still have Forrest to swing through
