If I use synthetic oil on my next oil change can I switch back to regular oil afterwards?

Someone said that once I go synthetic I can't go back or it will cause harm to my engine and then someone else said the opposite that it is ok to go back. Which is correct?If I use synthetic oil on my next oil change can I switch back to regular oil afterwards?
I've heard that once you start using synthetic oil. you should not go back to petro based.

This is what I found from automedia.com

';One urban myth surrounding synthetic oil is its compatibility with conventional oil. At one time, those who switched from conventional to synthetics had to stick with synthetics鈥攖here was no going back. Synthetics expanded the seals in the engine; then, when conventional motor oil was used, that engine sprang multiple leaks.

Now, while the companies don't recommend mixing or switching back and forth, one company's synthetics are fully compatible with others and compatible with conventional oils. The source of compatibility problems was high levels of ester in the earlier synthetics. Considering the consequences, it's best to verify this compatibility, either on the company's website or with your trusted mechanic.';

So again, its better not to go back.If I use synthetic oil on my next oil change can I switch back to regular oil afterwards?
It is a common myth that you cannot mix conventional motor oil with synthetic. This is not the case. For example, all of our Castrol motor oils are fully compatible with one another 鈥?synthetic and conventional.

yes you can go back to reg oil but why would you spend all that money on a synthetic oil change then switch back to reg oil, go with synthetic and stay with it, you will save in the long run
It's ok to go back, but you will put more strain on the engine on reg. oil.
I know of no reason why you cannot go back to regular oil after using synthetic. To be safe, check with a dealership.
Yes, you can go back. In fact, all synthetic oil manufacturers that I know of say their oil is compatible with petroleum oil, so you could even mix them - but I'd only do it in an emergency, say if you found you were 'way low on oil and the only thing available was petroleum-based. Doing so would give you the lowest protection of all the lubricating products that you had mixed together.

Synthetic is hands-down the best for your equipment.
that's what i was told....

but i love the synthetic.

it lasts twice as long. sometimes more.

and it's better for your car.
