Can I get more miles between oil changes by using synthetic oil in my car?

I drive 1000+ miles a week and do my own oil changes every 2,700 miles. I heard I can go twice as long with synthetic. Is it true? Can I get more miles between oil changes by using synthetic oil in my car?
I have done Used Oil Analysis on my 94 Geo Prizm and regular Mobil 1 was still ';good'; after 8200 miles. I run the Mobil 1 EP that Mobil guarantees to be good for 15K miles for 6 months or 15K miles before I change it.

I do a filter change at 3 months, and keep it topped up.

I think you could try Mobil 1 Extended Performance and get a Used Oil Analysis done by Blackstone labs or someone for about $30 to see if you can extend the oil change interval.

Of course, if your vehicle is under car makers or a 3rd party warranty, I'd maintain according to the owners manual or terms of that warranty. Can I get more miles between oil changes by using synthetic oil in my car?
My grandfather religiously changed his oil at 3,000 miles, you should probably look at your owner's manual, many new vehicles will reccomend what type of oil to use, some manuals say you can go 5,000 miles on newer vehicles, and if most of the driving is done on the highway that causes less stress on the engine, and in my opinion, synthetic oil is better for your engine anyway.
Actually new oils are WAY better than what you could buy just a few years ago. If your driving that much you could easliy go 5K or 6K miles on regular oil. Just make sure to check the API rating and get the highest letter designation you can SJ,SK,SL,SM. The important part of this is the oil filter. They will plug and go into bypass mode at about 7,000 miles.

Synthetic only makes ';cents'; if you run extended oil change intervals. But you still have to change the filters. You ';can'; actually go up to 30,000 miles with the right synthetic. But to do that you better do your homework. You really shouldn't do extended oil changes unless you understand what your doing. Do a yahoo search for ';The Motor Oil Bible';. Read the free version, then buy the full version. You'll be VERY happy you did. Even if you start knowing nothing about oil, it will give you all the knowledge you need on the subject.
Yes you can. BMW specs synthetic oil in their vehicles. Their recommended oil change interval is 9000 miles rather than petroleum based oils 3000 miles. Of course the bad part about synthetics is that they cost triple the price of regular petroleum based oils. I guess the positive would be you won't have to visit your friendly oil change guy as much.
