I have a Toyota Tundra and my first oil change (3K) Jiffy Lube sold me on synthetic because it could go 5K miles. When I went back for them to check the oil level after 3K they told me I needed an oil change after every 3K despite the synthetic oil. What's the rub? Should I go some where else or just ignore them and go 5K anyway? How manner miles can a vehicle go on synthetic oil?
On a late model vehicle, using good synthetic (full, not semi-synthetic) oil, you can go 8-10,000 mis. between changes, as long as the vehicle is driven like it is supposed to be. They told you 3000, because it adds change to their pockets. How manner miles can a vehicle go on synthetic oil?
Go somewhere else. They just want your money. Depending on your driving style you should be able to double that at least.
I change mine as per the recommendation in my Honda's owner's manual. I think the manufacturers know better than Jiffy Lube what is best for the car they have made. Their engineers are much more qualified than some Jiffy Lube guy.
The best way to be sure is to get your oil analyzed. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en%26amp;clien鈥?/a>
I change our '96 Accord every 7.500 miles and our 2002 CR-V every 10,000 miles. I have had my oil analyzed so I know this is safe. We use synthetic in both vehicles but even with conventional oil this is what Honda recommends. And btw even at this many miles we don't have to add any oil between changes.
If the Tundra is still under warranty, you need to follow the manufacturers recommended oil change intervals. If it isn't still under warranty, then under normal driving conditions you could easily go 5,000 between changes (if it is a true synthetic).
Normally cars should be changed at 3000 miles but just check your oil.
idk
