And What is the best fully synthetic oil?How often do you need to change fully synthetic oil in a new car?
they make fantastic claims for it, but youd be safe at 4k :)How often do you need to change fully synthetic oil in a new car?
most manufacturers recommend 5000-7000 on new cars. I still stick to the 3000 miles rule.
Synthetic doesn't break down like regular oil but it still gets dirty. Every 10,000 would be fine, and easy to remember. You should change it quicker the first time, because you'll still have a little old oil in there to flush out.
The people who say 3,000 just say that because it's what their grandaddy said. But even regular oil is much better and longer lasting than 30 years ago.
12,000 or more
At least twice the normal change interval. Look in your owner's manual for the proper change intervals. These 'quickie-lube' places have the whole country believing it's 3,000 miles but it's not. My '93 Ford's manual says every 7500 miles. I'd think 10,000 miles wouldn't be a problem. Change the filter at 5,000 then top it back off. Check your warranty to be sure you aren't violating it. Tractor Trailer Semis are sometimes running 50,000 miles on Synthetic. I bought Motorcraft (Ford) Synthetic from Wal-Mart for a good price.
every 3000 miles
7000 miles is fine. Mobile 1 now has a version that can allegedly go 15k.
Red line is supposed to be better than Mobile 1, but AMG, Corvette, and Lotus all recommend Mobile 1.
You change your oil because of the contamination more than for any other reason, so don't exceed your car makers' recommendations by too much to be safe. Some is probably ok.
Usually, it's recommeded that you change fully synthetic oils every 10 000kms. Personally, i'd always go for Castrol's EDGE oil.
